Another entry for the list of things I love about Twitter: after I tweeted how I wished Flickr’s account-renewal page had a tip jar (because Flickr is underpriced at $25/yr) my good buddy Scott Simpson messaged me to say…

What I love about Scott is that he takes my “I want to do thing X; oh wait I can’t; well then I’m gonna tweet a lol about it” thing and turns into into a WE CAN do it THIS WAY, and also it will MAKE SOMEONE ELSE HAPPY. Talk about a win on like eight levels.

So we decided to do a miniature contest on Twitter…

…the results of which I’m happy to announce: our Flickr Pro gift membership goes to not one but TWO very, very deserving fellas:

Gabriel Tichy, for his absolutely book-quality shots of Cuba.

Wow, wow, wow. Perfectly exposed, dramatically framed, sharp as a country grandmother. There’s no HDR overreaching here, no selective color or phony poetry tacked onto imagery like a tail of T.P. Just life in masterful color, composition, and texture; the stuff of Photo 101 wet dreams.

Beautiful stuff, Gabriel. [Catch him on Twitter here]

….Aaaaand our equally rightful second winner is:

Mike Miller, for his mindblowingly great illustrations done on an iPod(!)

I mean, I was reasonably happy with the doodles I made in Sketches, but this guy is amazing. The end product is lovely, but just think about the actual process - pinching and swiping and tapping and changing opacity and color a small million times, layering awesome upon awesome.

Enjoy it, Mike! [Here he is on Twitter]

Thanks again to Scott for his brain, and thanks to everyone for playing! You can search Twitter for @nevenmrgan and @scottsimpson to see all the submissions.
